How does Adwords Work?

Do all keywords get results

Could someone please help, I am a novice at adwords. I am typing in "<snip>" as one of my keywords and have put a price in that will mean I am number 1 in the adwords, however, when I type in "<snip>" I am not in any of the adwords. Can anyone help?

It takes a few hours for it to go up. Also, have you checked your daily budget? If it isn't above what they suggest, your ad will not appear all the time.

It does not take a few hours. It is almost instant.

I just checked and there are no sponsors for that keyword phrase other than ebay.

Go back and try it again and take your time. You must carefully learn the system to be effective.

Also make sure you are logged out of your account, prior to seeing if your ads are up. When you do check hit refresh refresh refresh and refresh, due to the rotation the previous post accurately points out.

Thanks for your help. Another question I have is, if I use a number of rarely used keyword terms, and do not have the terms in my ad, if someone searches for one of these terms, will my adword box always appear as long as I have bid enough?

Yes, Google AdWords, unlike Overture, will display your ad if your keyword phrase root appears in the search string that the user types in. In other words, as you suggested, if your bids and daily budgets are high enough your bidding on: "Widget Hotels" for example will also allow you to show up for "Widget Discount Hotels". Again, this is highly dependant on the competitive nature of the keyword phrase, but is a business rule which is accurate.

Unless of course you specify otherwise. If you put brackets
[chicago example] around your keywords, google will only pull you ad if the exact phrase was typed.

I am a big fan of the brackets for many many reasons.

Where is your ad by the way? Still having problems?

i just ran a test ad for you on google for your search phrase. the ad is up now for "<snip>". it is that fast, so you must be doing something wrong. i will take down the ad in a couple of minutes. good luck.

It doesn't always go up instantly. I have had some take a few hours to go up. I think it has to do with an editor looking at it. It may go up instantly but get pulled back again for a random check. I know this happens. There was a discussion a few days ago about it. Something about 10000 impressions after an edit or something. I can't find it now.
