Adding Adgroups & Keywords

Is there a lag time before everything runs in normal mode?

This is related to another thread that I submitted.

Anyways, My question is - is there a lag time? say for example you added 50 adgroups with about 20 keywords each the 1st day, and another 50 adgroups the second day (same number of keywords) and then on the 3rd day the same thing... keywords are 2 words to 4 word phrases...

so you end up with about 150 adgroups with about 20 keywords each all in the same campaign, with a total number of keywords in the range of 3000+.

will there be a lag time before adwords would be able to show all of your ads? Or is there other performance issues with this set up that we should know about?

thank you!

tsinoy, as a general rule, whenever you create or edit anything in your account, there'll be lag time (also known as server delays) as your change or edit 'updates' through a whole heck of a lot of servers. The time frame can range from a few minutes to a few hours. This applies to budget changes, CPC changes, the addition or deletion of keywords, the creation or deletion of ads, etc. Basically everything, in other words.

If you're creating new ads, once the server updates have occurred, your ads will normally show on Google right away. (There are a few exceptions to this that involve 'sensitive' ads/keywords.)

Then after they have been reviewed and approved, they will show on partner sites as well.

...so you end up with about 150 adgroups with about 20 keywords each all in the same campaign, with a total number of keywords in the range of 3000+.

will there be a lag time before adwords would be able to show all of your ads? Or is there other performance issues with this set up that we should know about?

In the back of your mind, be aware of the suggested limits. These are not hard and fast limits, but it is possible that, if you exceed them, at some point you may notice slowed navigation or other issues. Some suggested limits to keep in mind:

* Max keywords in a single Ad Group = 750

* Max Ad Groups in a campaign = 100

* Max keywords in a campaign, inclusive of all Ad Groups = 2000

Hi AWA,

thank you for your comments and recommendation.

I didn't know about the recommended numbers.. :)... quick question though is there a way to split a campaign without entering them again manually? Have you seen people asking for help to split this up?

thank you.

regards.

Tsinoy, there is not, at present, a way to simply split up campaigns, move intact Ad Groups between campaigns while keeping keyword history, etc. It really is a matter of entering them again manually (which can of course be speeded up by copy/paste techniques).

It is well understood around here that this is less than ideal, and solutions are being worked on. ;)

By the way, I suspect that the numbers you mentioned earlier in the tread are not high enough to create slowdowns or navigation issues, so you probably will not have to split things up. I just wanted to mention the suggested limits as info to keep in mind, as you design campaigns/Ad Groups in the future.

AWA,

thank you. I appreciate your comments.

The numbers are actually at about 301 adgroups(including 58 adgroups that I paused after starting this thread) with about maybe 5000-6000 keywords... navigation wise it is still speedy since I lower the number of adgroups and keywords shown to 30 whenever I navigate through the adgroups or keywords.

The 300+ adgroups have been in there for 2-3 days. But several adgroups still don't have any impressions, could be that there is some system delay to either update my account or adwords is slowly deploying each adgroup(just a guess).

I guess my strategy of a very targetted campaign and adgroup doesn't seem to be scaling very well with adwords at the moment if it's in 1 campaign :). Maybe I just need to give adwords some time to digest all those adgroups. :) I do feel like I'm eating 10 hamburgers all at once with my mouth full. hehe...

I have another 50 adgroup or so to enter... so I'll make another campaign for those adgroups.
