Yet no oddities in account

Hey everyone,

Had some ads that have been doing well over the last week and suddenly they aren't appearing this morning.

No messages about "Ad disapproved for whatever reason" or "Keyword disapproved", in fact in the account it says everything is 100% normal. Except 0 impressions and clicks.

I checked one of the ad's search terms and there were a number of new advertisers - Ok, so maybe I was out-bid.

I then checked another ad group which only has max 3 other advertisers and again that ad was not appearing. No possibility of being out bid to the point of non-appearance.

So what I did is deleted the ads and made new ones, and they're appearing fine so far.

But any idea why they would all stop at once, with no actual notice from Google of them being disapproved or something? Like I said, everything says "Approved". I double checked payment options as well to make sure that's functioning, and no trouble there either.

Bugs.

Sometimes ads just stop for no reason. No impressions, no clicks when that's unlikely to be a natural occurance. When I've contacted Google they start showing again.

However, I've learned that by simply making the tiniest change, then saving it again seems to kick start these "unconcious" ads. My standard change is to toggle the words "Only" and "Just" back and forth since they mean about the same thing in the context that I use them. In fact, maybe just the act of saving them again triggers a review and when the reviewer hits it, it gets turned on again. The best answer I've ever gotten from Google is a canned response that says "some of your keywords may have been flagged for review".

Again this stoppage has happened when I've made no recent changes to the ad nor received any email from Google about the ad being a problem. I know it's not a budget issue and the diagnostic tool will often say "Ad Shown" when it is clearly not being shown anywhere.

I usually discover this just by accident since I have a lot of ad groups. Chances are that I have 1 or 2 now that have just "stopped" despite my not having made any changes. Sooner or later I'll stumble on them.

This is in a slightly different but similar vein. In fact just yesterday, I had an ad suspended for "violating affiliate guidelines". I looked at the adgroup up and down, no chance of a violation. I asked another member here to look at the ad and he could see nothing wrong either. Made a cosmetic change to the wording and saved it. Wrote to Google though and asked why was my ad suspended, I cannot see where I have done anything wrong. Please explain.

In response, I get an email back saying "Thank you for making the suggested changes, your ad is now appearing again".

I think you're expecting perfection where none is possible :)

Is anyone else using your domain for any purpose--for adwords?

Remember the new affiliate policy has been implemented.

Hi there,

Checked out that link, thanks for that - I went through the checklist and none seem to apply to this situation.

I also thought perhaps this was some sort of issue with the new affiliate rules however nobody else is advertising for this particular site.

It remains an unknown. Hopefully it doesn't happen again!

Madmatt69, you didn't mention whether you'd contacted AdWords support, but they are an excellent resource in figuring this stuff out. They can take a look at your actual account (which none of us here can do, of course) and usually let you know in pretty short order what's up.

Best way to email AdWords support: use the 'Contact Us' link on each page of your account. ;)

Best of luck!
