Someone I spoke to is utterly convinced that Google can be tricked into giving you good position and clicks by bidding 20p (for example)but setting up a number of accounts with the same terms.

They seem to think that you get good positions & cheap traffic.
Please see this in their own words below!

"However I have found from a competitor that when you submit your search words for any bid eg 20p Google put it on the first page for the first few hours. So is that why other companies have such a lot of bids for one word search? It is obviously cheaper than paying more than a pound for the click"

Just look at what happened to Kelkoo on Google UK and you have the answer.

They are probably right.

they set up a partnership with MSN earlier in the year and their results/listing on Google were massacred. Fact.
