my ad:

{KeyWord: Generic Widgets}
Great selection and prices
on all widgets.

keywords:
[red widgets]
[blue widgets]

I search for "red widgets" and my ad's title shows 'Red Widgets'. I search for "blue widgets" and my ad's title shows 'Generic Widgets'.

I've double checked - and the keywords are well below the maximum length.

I have a bunch of other ad groups with different matching options - but I've verified this is the one that's getting displayed (they all have slightly different ad content).

Anyone else hit this? AWA?

Thanks,

-Rich

I just noticed an instance of this happening to me as well. The phrase in question is well within the word length limit.

Interestingly, other exact matches in the same AG seem to work fine. Is this a glitch, or something else at work?

Could be something to do with Google's whacky synonyms. Try the following search, ~white -white, results; yellow! Google's synonyms appear to actually come from query content relationships, and they can be wierd. Try ~blue -blue, you get results with "blu". There must be no synonym for red however.

Try the ~tilde -not operators on your keywords maybe you'll find a clue.

Got a response from adwords support:

---------------
In order for keyword insertion to work properly, keywords must be approved in a certain way. I found that not all of your keywords had been approved to allow for keyword insertion. I have asked an AdWords Specialist to review these keywords again. Your keyword 'green widgets' should begin to work with keyword insertion within the next few hours.
---------------

I'm pretty happy with this response. It sounds like if others are having the problem - contacting adwords support might help get it resolved.
