Other Countries and American Ads...

Does it matter?

Is it worth clicking more than America for English ads? Does Google translate them all?

Google doesn't translate your ads or copy - you must do this yourself.

You can advertise to those searching in English in other countries without the need to translate your ads.

Heheh - I was composing a response to your question, sunzfan, and returned to post - only to find that eWhisper had beat me to it.

But since I already wrote it, and since it has a few additional details, here it is anyway!

Ideally, the countries to which you would decide to show your ads would depend on how and where you prefer to do business, whether there are shipping concerns, and so forth.

Some 'headlines' about language and country targeting:

* Country targeting will show your ads to users who are identifiable as being in the country or countries you've selected.

* Language targeting will show your ads to those (in the countries you've selected) who are using the language interface(s) you have selected.

* It is quite likely that the budget required to show your ads all of the time in several countries would be more than that required to show your ad all the time in one country. So this may be a deciding factor in how many countries you choose to target.

* Your ads will appear exactly as you've written them. In other words, they are not translated in to other languages you may have selected.

Hi sunzfan,

Until last summer I only ran my ads in the US. Today, to my surprise and joy Australia and the UK represent about a fourth of my sales. And it only took a minute to make the changes.

instinct:

I have been getting some Canadian orders since the switch but nothing as obvious as Australia and the UK.

One other point to make though. I run my ads in all countries now and specify English as my language. Along with AUS/UK I'm now getting a trickle of orders from Scandinavia, Malaysia, India, Singapore and South Africa to name a few.

My guess is these folks are making English queries at their local Google and my ads are appearing. That's my guess. Either way, it only take a minute to make your ads appear in different countries and it can result in a nice little bump in sales.
