Adwords Select and getting indexed

I have to admit that Google is somewhat of a mystery --and the more I learn the more mysterious it gets. Sites that are competely irrelevant are ranked #1 and an analysis of links and keywords show that this particular site is doing nothing that is supposed to help with Google ranking.

We submitted to Yahoo!, Inktomi and Google at about the same time: 5 weeks ago. With Inktomi, we did very well from day 1 with MSN putting us at #1 or #2 in our key word searches.

With Google, we started an Adwords Select campaign at the same time, it does well too, with a 5.1% click-through. We find that most of our Google viewers are coming through AOL searches. At that same time we did 1 manual URL submission request for our main page.

But we have not been indexed by Google. On two dates, we showed up in a Google search well (right next to our paid ad), but it would last one day and disappear. This has not happened again in the last couple of weeks. I understand that Google takes a while to index. We have been soliciting and getting links from Google rated sites, since I know that one key to getting indexed is to have a spider find you from another site's link. Here are the questions:

1) Is there anything else we should be doing? and 2) in the long run, is the Adwords Select campaign hurting our chances of getting indexed?

Adwords is not hurting your chances of getting indexed.

Keep getting those quality inbound links.

If you showed up in google a few weeks ago, then MAYBE you are due to be included in the update (hopefully in next week or so).

Interesting - I am seeing something similar and don't know why.
Will get back to you if I find anything...
