Competitor ads' click-thru rate

Is there a way to guess whether it's better than mine?

Our client is wondering whether their ads are getting a better CTR than those of their competitors. Is there a way to infer this, even vaguely?

Who has the best CTR depends who has the best targeted keywords and best ad copy. If you are confident you have done this for your client then they will have the best CTR.

Also worth pointing out that it is converions that count not CTR. You can buy clicks with high max bids and misleading copy but it won't get you sales and will lose you money.

To get a general idea, you can use Google's Uncle Sam search (google.com/unclesam), which still has the old ad format with the interest bar. Its somewhat useful to compare how ads are doing.

The client understands all this, but it's helpful to have facts behind one's "confidence".

The Uncle Sam thing is just what I need! Thanks.

What exactly is that interest bar? I'm assuming it's proportional to CTR.

Thanx AG,

I did not know that one and it is somewhat of a help.

Correct!

The 'Interest Bar' was originally meant to me a graphic representation of the CTR of the keyword that was searched on. A full 'Interest Bar' meant the CTR was @ 1% CTR or above.

Interestingly, it was removed due to advertiser feedback, some of which was collected on this very forum, as I recall. :)

It is fascinating to see that at least some may be wishing for it's return!
