Campaign negative keywords 247 limit?

Can I only use 247 negative keywords in a campaign?

I've just noticed that when I add new negative keywords to a campaign that the number doesn't go up. The website says that it has added the keywords but then the count doesn't go up, nor do the keywords appear.

Does an upper limit of 247 exist?

If it does, it would be nice if it said so, and then didn't allow me to add more. I've been adding them for the last couple of months with absolutely no effect. thanks a lot google.

Oh, and while I am about it I may as well mention the poor design decision to use check boxes instead of the text box used everywhere else. When I have a number of campaigns using the same set of negative keywords it would be nice just to copy the whole lot in a text box and paste in a different campaign edit box.

I can do the same thing with non-negative keywords, why not negative keywords?

Have you tested the 248th negative term to see if your ads appear? Otherwise it might be a cosmetic thing.

Just curious - if you have 247 negative keywords, have you thought about re-jigging your campaign so that you don't need as many?

anallawalla, I have just performed a test on one of the negs I added yesterday and my ad still appears. So, the negatives are really not being added, even though the adwords system says they have been successfully added.

I'd say it is a bug.

edit_g,

the campaign is very focused so i am reluctant to refactor it out into a number of seperate campaigns. The problem is that each seperate campaign would then need the same set of negatives, so i am not sure it would be that helpful.

I wonder why they chose 247 as the limit.

Does an upper limit of 247 exist?

Jack_Hughes, I'm not aware of any such limit - and I'll alert the tech team to take a look into this.

In the meantime, please consider contacting AdWords support by using the 'Contact Us' link on each page of your account. A brief summary of what you've noticed would be most helpful.

Just a quick update on this thread, Jack_Hughes.

The techsters have been experimenting with this one, and have not been able to duplicate what you were experiencing at all.

So, if you're still having this problem, please do write an email, using the 'Contact Us' link from within the affected account.

Please mention in the body of the email that this is a specfic case that was discussed on WebmasterWorld, and that AdWordsAdvisor has requested that the email be forwarded to the tech team.

As an aside, in your email please say AdWordsAdvisor rather than AWA, as shockingly, no one around here knows me as AWA! ;)

AdWordsAdvisor...I have indeed done as you requested. Apparently, it's not a general thing, it's unique to my account. perhaps I insulted the google gods and now they are wreaking their vengence. or maybe it's just a bug in a bit of SQL code...who knows ;)
