Paused campaign(s) 24 hours ago...still getting clicks

Why is AOL still showing my ads?

Hello all...

Something strange has me scratching my head...

I paused all my campaigns over 24 hours ago, yet as of 5 minutes ago, they are still being shown (and I'm still getting charged) on AOL.

Now...I've paused my campaigns because we are about to do some work on our server, which will likely cause a few errors until complete...why are my ads still being shown?

That money will most likely be refunded to you. So they're bonus clicks, but if your server is down, obviously it won't be much of a bonus...

Also, the best way to get to the bottom of it (after confirming that the campaigns are indeed paused) is to contact AdWords support.

Specific details as to when you paused would be most helpful.

We are having a similar problem with a campaign that we paused on Wednesday. On Friay we even deleted the campaign entirely but the clicks are still coming! Adwords support has referred the issue to the technical team, no resolution yet.

This may sound dumb but if you are able to make a small change to something visible on the screen immediately before pausing, and then PAUSE...

If the displays don't carry the change you made immediately before the Pause then the problem is down to Cache - maybe?

stefan009, I'm afraid I cannot test this theory as I believe the problem to have been fixed. :-)

It certainly may have been a caching problem on Google's side, although I'm positive it wasn't a browser or local proxy cache issue, as we were phrase matching and our ad was still coming up for terms like "<phrase> asdfasdfasdf", which we had previously never searched for!
