hi,

casual lurker, first time poster. thanks in advance for all the great and helpful discussions.

we're a services company and we've recently began getting comfortable enough with google's adwords to the extent of running a few campaigns. while the campaigns are running fairly well, there's always room for improvement.

one thing i'm noticing that i'm not too clear on: when i do a search for one of our keywords, it doesn't pop up in the first 100 natural/organic search results, although it may appear rather high under the sponsored links.

what's the cause of this? is the solution as simple as upping the current maximum cpc to ensure we're placed higher in the natural/organic search results? i can't think that's the answer as that would simply cause a bidding war but again, i'm not clear as to what the solution is.

any replies are appreciated. thanks in advance!

There is absolutely no correlation between sponsored (AdWords) placement and the natural search engine results. Bidding higher for your ads will not increase your ranking on Google.

AWA here, checking in as predicted, to report: no connection between search and advertising, and one does not affect the other in any way.

I like to picture eWhisper staying up nights, drinking expresso, and creating a searchable database of where and when any question was effectively answered in this Forum.

Either that, or his walls are covered three-deep in post-it notes!
