Adwords Confusion!

In Australia - something seems strange!

Hi all,
I am using PPC Bid Browser and Bid Reporter Professional from Softnik Technologies.

It supposedly gives adword statistics on particular keywords and what the highest bids are.

For example, when I type Iraq into these tools I get a top bid of $0.13 and I can see the top bidder and their website details etc.

My problem is that when I type iraq into Google I do not see the bidders details on the right hand side where the adwords should appear. I do see someone elses adword details but they do not appear in any of the two software packages.

I am wondering whether because I am in Australia that might be the issue? If so how do I check the US Google. Even if I type www.google.com it seems to be only searching the Australia adwords.

Thanks in advance - this is my first post so any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Nikhil

Welcome to Webmasterworld!

I don't know those tools but I doubt that those are Adwords bids. You can see Overture bids and some from smaller engines, but if any company offers a service that knows what people are bidding, then it can only be an approximation based on their knowledge of those terms.

To consistently see the US Google.com, you can set preferences or use the option in the Google toolbar. For one-offs, do a search and after it appears, add "&gl=us" at the end of the string in the address bar, then hit Enter. You should see US ads.

If you use a US based web host, you can run a proxy script depending on the OS of the host. I use cgiproxy - written in Perl for Linux.

Hi Anallawalla

Thanks for your post. I think you are right, I meant overture bids that can be seen in those 2 programs.

I can't seem to get that &gl=us string to work. And I dont run a US based host - unless you mean a web hosting company which I use for my website.

Also just wanted to ask about a package called Adword Analyzer that has the following benefits:

Save time by calculating how many competitors are bidding on YOUR keywords in both Google and Overture.

Dominate your market by immediately gauging the "supply and demand" that exists for any given keyword!

View US AdWords without a proxy server no matter which country you live in!

Conduct multiple searches simultaneously! Another time saver!

100% compatibility with Wordtracker (import your Wordtracker keyword lists).

Ad Word Analyzer works the way you work. Import ANY text file containing keywords.

Save time by selecting than saving specific keywords from the results in a separate text file.

"Save as" feature allows you to export your search results in either HTML or CSV format.

Control your costs as Ad Word Analyzer automatically sorts from least to most Google campaigns.

Sort alphabetically, searches, results, R/S Ratio, Google campaigns, and Overture campaigns.

Is there any other package you can recommend that does the following or are there any free tools that can be used?

Thanks again for your help!

Nikhil

Yes, hosts usually mean web hosts, not always your ISP.

Sorry, perhaps such tools are mildly useful when entering a new niche, but since most of the PPCSEs come with research tools, I have not wanted to use them. You will need to ask in some other forum as this discussion is moving away from Adwords.

Read some of the library posts here to see how Adwords works. Knowing what others are paying is not particularly useful. With a well-written ad that gives a good CTR, you may rank higher than a high bidder with a lousy ad.

After a while you won't bother with tools.
