I've seen horizontal sponsored search results in Google that appear on top of search results in google and run across page. How do I get one of these ads? A friend told me that you have to spend at least $5K a month for this or something. Anyone know how to get one?

Tommy,

You have to have an ad with an excellent CTR (like 5% plus) and be on the top spot and bid a certain minimum (I don't know how much but I have keywords that are in the topspot for 10 cts). See this forum for more details.

The 5k is something from the past and no longer valid.

Tommygunner, Robsp is correct that there are tons of posts on this Forum in the recent past that address this question in great detail. But very briefly, here are a few headlines:

* Ads that appear at the top of the page are AdWords ads that have been sent up top (from the right hand side) by virute of having met an additional performance standard that focuses on the relevance of the Ads to Google's users.

* The CTR of the keywords searched is weighted more heavily than your CPC. So paying more doesn't directly help to get you there. Instead, focus on creating really targeted ads that Google users will find relevant to the search that they've done.

* You'll find that many searches produce no ads at the top. This means that none of the ads on the right have met the performance standard to 'Go North'. So, you'll see either zero, one, or two ads up there.
