I recently switched to Firefox, and I only use IE now to have a look at pages PR.

Now I did a Google query in Firefox via the Firefox Google toolbar, and my adwords ad showed up.
I did exactly the same query in IE via Googles original toolbar, and my (and about 4-5 other ads) DIDN't show up!

I then noticed that the URL's in Firefox and IE were slightly different:

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=mozclient&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&q=widget (Firefox)
http://www.google.com/search?hl=de&ie=UTF-8&q=widget&btnG=Suche&lr= (IE)

Now comes the strange part:

If I paste the Firefox query URL into IE and hit return - guess what! The ads are NOT showing! And - yes - I reloaded multiple times!

How can that be?

Not sure about your question but FireFox has a PageRank extension.

However the initial problem still persists: IE shows other AdWord ads than Firefox...

Adwords ads displayed in Firefox do not appear to be being filtered by user location (IP) which is why you're seeing different ads - it's defaulting to global ads.

Your version of Firefox appears to be the standard English (US) version, whereas your version of IE appears to be in German - therefore the latter is requesting information in German and Google is taking this into account when serving ads.

I'm not sure how to change the default Google search string in Firefox, but have you tried specifying German as your preferred language in Edit > Preferences > General > Languages? That might have some effect. Otherwise, you can do a search for the German version of Firefox.
