Does anyone know why Excite would show as a search result my Google adword advertisment? I don't mind the extra coverage and it explains why my competitor has so many results showing.

Excite is a partner of Google's, as they are part of the InfoSpace network. Infospace bought Excite a while back, and it's now a meta engine, like Dogpile, Webcrawler, etc.
