Does an Adwords listing influence your Google ranking?

Our site has been in the top five for our most lucrative keyword for over six months now. Several of my competitors have Google Adwords campaigns but none of them are in the top 30. I want to use the Adwords to bring attention to some new lower prices available on our products. I am a little apprehensive. Has there been any evidence that an Adwords campaign can hamper your SERPs positioning?

It is likely they are using Adwords because they have 1) No links to their site 2) No seo skills
Therefore their only option is Adwords. Go for it - it has potential to be very profitable for you.
