Is it just me? It seems like every ad I start takes me sending an email in before they'll review it and start the campaign.
Same thing with corrections, I fix what's asked for then it just sits there with no impressions until I write an email saying?

It may be doing this for several reasons. The most likely is that your account is flagged up for review because you have multiple accounts on the same credit card or IP Address. Is this the case?
If not, I'd just suggest emailing support and asking them why this happens everytime (although I assume you have already done this rather than address each case individually?)
