Hi,

i'm trying to push this 'learn widgets' product that sells for ~$200. In G you see my ad and the actual companies ads. I have sent 400+ links in the past few days and haven't seen a sale.

The company advertises very broad keywords like 'widget' and 'learn widget', and I have done the same.

Should I give up on this affiliate or do I have to do much more reasearch b4 quiting?

I read that some people try a product for 1 hour or 1 day using adwords to see if the product converts.....that is what I did but i'm guessing I did a very simply and superficial experiment...

If I get $30 per sale (15%), and i was hoping to get at least 1 sale per 200 clicks, i can pay up to .15 per click to break even.

ideas?suggestions?

A few suggestions:

1) I noticed you're using very broad, single-word terms, which are rarely well targeted.

You'll have better success using terms that have at least two or more words in them, so I suggest getting rid of any single word term.

An exception is when people type in two or more words in a query with no space(s) between them. It's not really one word of course, but you get the point.

2) The affiliate program doesn't pay very well (15%).

Not saying that this won't work for you, but with such a high price point it's likely to have a lower conversion rate, and will be a bit harder to make money with.

Making your ad text more compelling and targetted also does a lot for conversions. Try different variants to see which one works best. I totally agree with the previous post on more targetted keywords.

Sadly, many affiliate schemes will convert at that sort of rate.

Is this a direct link to the merchant site?

If not, what sort of tracking do you have in place to identify how many people are actually clicking off your site onto theirs.

We've seen plenty of "great" schemes that pay great money turn out to be very poor, due to the conversion rate.

I'd be tweaking the ads in a big way, so far you've let 400 people think that they were going to get X and they got Y.

I am linking directly to the merchant, except via a redirect link so I can track user's information.

My ads are receiving 1.7% CTR.

"sadly most ...will convert at that rate"

Did you mean, 1 :300 will buy? If so, my ads are really off tune then!

BTW, what sort of #'s should I put into a program before I know its a deadbeat product?

1. clicks?
2. $ ($100, $1000?)
3. time frame?

Maybe its a combination, but I need someone to put all those factors (and more?) together.

Hey,

Is this product in ClickBank? Most CB products do not convert. I have found only 1, and even it is not really worth it. Here are some things I would do for any Campaign:

- Start with only targeted KeyWords, if they don't get enough impressions to run a test, then ad a few broad ones in there.

- Trying to sell a $200 product when you are new is harder than say an average 40-50 dollar product. Does anyone disagree? I am new too, and I always go for the ones with around a $20 commission, and the product usually sells for around $45+

All the Best,

C.K.

Last month I spent close to $3,000 promoting one clickbank product. At the end of the period I made a total of $3,600 - for profit of $600.

Not bad, but the risk is just to high in my mind to make only $600.

When you factor in that I made the merchant $3,600 and he took no risk - you can see who the winner was on this deal!

The other thing I figured out was that if this was my product I would run these ads non-stop because the ROI would be really good, and the risk would go down.

So that is what I am doing - developing my own product!

I have had some success with CJ merchants, but it is pretty hard with the low commissions most of them offer. For CJ stuff natural search placement is the way to make the money.
