Same KW in different Campaign?

One has a better CTR - should I delete the other?

I ran a campaign for about 6 months. I then developed a new strategy and in order to start fresh, started a completely different campaign. The new campaign's CTR rate is much lower, I deleted the original campaign.

2 questions:

1. Does my Keyword history start over since I used the same keyword in the new campaign? I had developed excellent CTR with certain keywords.

2. If my keywords did start from scratch, am I better off 'undeleting' my original account, and moving on from there? (where my CTRs were excellent.)

1) Yeah. I think so.

2) Not very sure what happens when you undelete an old campaign. But do it anway. Let the system decide which campaign ad copy to show for the keyword.

>>> The new campaign's CTR rate is much lower

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Within a couple of days, it should improve as your ads will be syndicated to Google's partner network. I feel the keywords in the new campaign is not being syndicated right now.

Historic CTR won't count for anything if you have deleted the ad.

Obvious question is why did you delete it to revisit at a later date?

Clearly the CTR is a snapshot of the previous 1000 impressions. So if you were one of 3 advertisers before and now you are one of 25 then it's fair to say that the CTR will be different.

At the beginning of the year extended broad match was introduced, so that will make a big difference anyway to most CTR.

i think you hit the nail on the head with the broad match. i forgot i switched it on for this campaign:)

are you sure about teh history going down the drain once you delete a campaign, even if you undelete it?
