Basically I want to catch all the keyword phrases involving blue widges while also tracking each individual one as a separate keyword as they are identified but I don't want to use the phrase match if it will hurt those individual keywords because of a lower overall CTR.
The exact match is the same as the phrase match with unlimited phrases of negatives. Thus, the phrase match is nothing more than to cover all these negatives. Since we use the negatives to improve the CTR, there is no reason why CTR on the exact match will be lowered due to the phrase match.
CTR on the exact match is always higher than CTR's phrase match in my account. Of course, there are some exceptions.
For the example I mentioned above, will my ad group with the phrase match keyword blue widgets show up in searches for which I also have an ad group for the exact matched keyword blue widgets? If it does, then that means that it will also have a lower CTR because it will also be showing up for large blue widgets which has a lower CTR. Therefore I am assuming anytime a search for blue widgets is conducted, then the lower CTR of the phrase match keyword blue widgets will pull down the ranking of the exact match keyword blue widgets unless I remove the phrase match keyword right?
