Curious to know how many ads you run, and if you don't mind saying, what is your average profit - I've ran a few adword campaigns averaging 20% profit. That made me think that I could spend a few tens of thousands in adwords and that would net me a few grand. I'm not sure if that would make much sense, given the volatility and the risk of getting no return on your investment.

Not sure what you are asking, but note that you won't get anything useful because we advertise different products and not everyone is selling something at the point of click. "Ads" are the creatives and I have between 3 and 7 creatives per ad group. I haven't tried to count the total of ads, keywords, ad groups, campaigns but they would be in the high hundreds or low thousands.
Sometimes it makes sense to group keywords in one ad group, sometimes not. Sometimes you use just one creative if it is known to be good; sometimes you use several until you find out which ones get the most clicks.

Agreed with above post.
I have 30+ different ad groups though with different products but someone with one ad group advertising one product can make way more than me. It's not about the quanity, it's about the quality.
