How do you make adwords click thrus show up in a stat tracker?

What is the most common way to do this? I figure one way to do it would be to have the adwords ad lead the user to a special page that redirects to the home page, is this a good way to do it?

you can also pass arguments along in the target URL like?ref=adwords123 If your stats packages can handle the arguments you can track the adwords clicks. I would also advise a separate landing pages for your adwords customers

I use AWStats. I tried the variable thing you mentioned, but it appears that AWStats doesn't account for it. I guess I will have to try a different method.

For awstats try having a look at the following
settings:-

URLWithQuery=1
URLWithQueryWithOnlyFollowingParameters=""

I use iwebtrack, that does the job for tracking URLs.
