Multiple adwords Inconsistencies

See if you can figure out what is happenning here

Ok, I have a lot of faith in Google, however my adwords accounts have been playing up recently:

Example 1: Several times I have had an adwords campaign that has stopped showing any ads for no apparent reason. It was working and then stopped working for 2 months. When I got around to looking at my account 2 months later I emailed google and said "hey what is going on, why are my ads not showing", and they emailed back saying, "they are showing" AND then they started showing again! Obviously the guy flicked some switch to activate them again, but strange that he said "they are showing" when they clearly were not showing previously.

Example 2: I have a campaign which has 2 ads in the same campaign. Both ads are showing as active but one of the ads is getting no impressions and no clicks. It got two clicks and then for some reason that ad is not showing any more.

What's going on with Google adwords?

Example 2: I have a campaign which has 2 ads in the same campaign. Both ads are showing as active but one of the ads is getting no impressions and no clicks. It got two clicks and then for some reason that ad is not showing any more.

This could very well be an example of ad optimization turned on. If one ad is doing well, and the other not, then G will show the ad doing well a lot more often. If you want them to gather equal impressions - turn ad optimization off.

Example 1 sounds like you need to check your accounts more often. In every PPC, when updates to the CP and other features are made, some issues occur. Usually, they are minor (albeit annoying), and are easily fixed.

Hey,

So if I have just 1 Ad running in an AdGroup, and the Campaign starts doing well and I want to start testing different ads I must turn Optimization off?

Example:

I have AdGroup 1 running 1 ad for a couple of days now. I would now like to add another ad so that I can see which one gets better CTR. Does this mean that if I don't turn Optimization off, that Ad #1 will still get rotated most of time, because it has been in longer?

Reguarding number 1 above, my company had similar issues when our advertising started exceeding our daily budget - the way it was explained to me was that we have X amount of dollars per day to spend, we would hit that on average, say, halfway through the day. Rather then allow us to go half a day on and half a day off, google throttles campaigns in such a manner as to make adds to show on say half the searches out there if this is potentially the case (from observation, it seems also to involve a timeout rather then a more liter half the searches method, generally if our clicks are on the high side then for some minutes none of our adds for a given campaign show)

Reguarding the question about optimization, AFAIK google assigns some portion of hits to "bad" adds no matter how poorly they do, so you do not have to turn optimization off, rather you have to wait for some period of time and gauge by observation whether your new add is bieng shown a higher or lower percentage of the time. It seems, unfortunately, that it can take some time for the (better) add to unseat its predecessor, as when it starts with say 1% of the searches it is more subject to statistical quirks such as bad ctr based on relatively few impressions

It is definitely not an issue of spending limits. I put the daily spending limit at $50,000. Not even close to reaching it. And the ad was not showing at all.

Also it is not simply a matter of optimization as the ad is not showing at all. Zero impressions.

Not campaign speanding limit (I assume this is what you refer to setting) but rather the amount of credit which google has extended to you or your company per month, is the cap I am talking about (though if set too low a compaign speanding limit could cause this as well). Then again im not sure that they do not have a prepay program.
My point is that in my companies case we had (and still have) behaviour similar to what you describe which was caused when bidding became competative enough that we hit their glass ceiling, our daily speanding limit. If this is or were the problem you could/can reslove it by bidding less competativly and/or having your speanding limit increased.

Your account was flagged as "fraud" and hence was disabled. When you sent them an email, they checked the account history and flicked the switch on.

Not sure why your account was flagged as fraud though. Some of the possibilities -

- Your credit card was rejected sometime back
- You logged into multiple AdWords accounts from your computer
- You are using multiple adwords accounts.

There could be more - Google refuses to give you reasons for flagging an account. Heck - they probably disabled it because you didn't check it in 2 months ;)

GoTo campaign settings and uncheck 'optimize ad delivery'. If it has not received any impressions since you created it, change the ad copy a little so that it goes back to google editors for review.

Bottom line, it is always much easier to troubleshoot an account issue by looking at the actual account.

Because so many factors (or combinations of factors) can be behind an 'account issue', it can be pretty difficult to pinpoint problems/solutions otherwise.

All of which is a long way of saying that if you're stumped by what is happening in your account, hit that 'Contact Us' link from within the account, outline the problem/symptoms, and let the support team take a detailed look.
