Outrageous Claims By E-book Authors

Is it Real?

I'm a New googler and as I look for information and help on how to run Google Adwords, I am baffled at the "outrageous" claims that these guys make, just to sell you a $97 e-book.
Are these books of any benefit, and if they are, which ones get real?
By the way, on my own, I've gotten 2 times a 100% click through rate.... 1 impression, 1 click. Sales have been profitable, but NO WHERE NEAR the $3900/hr claims....
Thanks!

Its a good quote but I don't know who said it first - if it sounds too good to be true then, most likely, it is...

Nobody here is going to tell you which book is good (I don't think it would be allowed) so there's no point asking. If you ask me they're all pretty useless - this business has changed dramatically by the time somebody has read your manuscript and again by the time you've revised it etc.

A few starting points:

Google Adwords FAQ is actually rather good.

Read here - there's a person here called Adwordsadvisor (that's not her/his real name, hopefully) who works for Google and can provide advice from the horses mouth (so to speak).

Also here, you have people who have made, lost and made again small fortunes on adwords - so there's a wealth of experience right here on this forum.

Experiment - the beauty of adwords is that you can experiment with small amounts to see what works and then focus on what does work.

Hope that helps - good luck.

<sorry>Welcome to WebmasterWorld</sorry.>

I wouldn't waste my time on books.. I agree with edit_g. It's a matter of trying out different words that may expand and reach your target audience. Good Luck.

Shel:

I think the 3,900 in sales per hour is fairly ridiculous. I've done fairly well with the ads, but not well enough to make a living off it (yet). It's a great opportunity to build wealth, but most of the time these get-rich-quick schemes promise a lot (and have top 1% people showing the 'results' you can get), but more often than not they are better than the truth of what is really out there.

Its a lot of work, and a lot of trial and error (dont get me STARTED about how much money I've poored into stupid ideas), but in the end you can definitely do fairly well. Just manage your expectations, stay with it (as long as its profitable), and always seek to improve.

If it is, talk about being born into a job...

Seriousally, this is a great forum to learn a lot. Don't forget the WW library [webmasterworld.com] as well.

I always resented my parents for calling me Adwordsprofiteer until Google launched it. ;)

The books make lots of big claims. When just starting out there is probably some benefit to reading a book that shows examples and provides a complete (admittedly hyped) explanation of the AdWords program.

A great many people in the forums do this stuff day in and day out and for many of us a book may seem like a waste of time. OTOH when getting started it may not be.

There is a good freebie in PDF on the Google site [adwords.google.com] that should help speed the learning process.

Thanks So much guys....I am on the right track. I'm having LOTS of fun with Google and hoping to start a "meeting" of "Googleheads" to do some brainstorming here in my neighborhood!
Keep those great conversations coming!
THanks!

The Case For Buying Ebooks and Info (but not any one in particular)

I've bought and read a few ebooks and audio on this topic. I feel like I learned a LOT. I can think of two or three tips I've picked up that I'm sure not everyone is using... even some pros.

I've bought ebooks that suck too. Don't buy them for outrageous claims. In the end its just like real books in the physical world. Read the ones that you can afford and that interest you most and add the knowledge gems gained to your mental database.

p.s. And hey, ask your taxman if you can take some of your purchases (business knowledge) off of your taxes.

The most popular (and possibly the most worthless) is "GoogleCash." I'll admit that I bought it when I was a semi-newbie to adwords. The sad thing is, is that I already knew almost everything that was written in the $67 book.

That being said I feel like I should have paid $100 for it. Why, you say? Simply because of the Perry Marshall adwords teleseminar that was included. It's 3 1/2 hours of VERY good stuff. It actually puts the book itself to shame, and used to sell for $400 alone.

Im not sure if its still being included with the adwords package though.

I've done some Perry Marshall and he helped tremendously, I must say I'm glad I purchased his book. How I would LOVE to attend a "google conference"....anyone know if such an animal exists?
Thanks,

I know that in the UK they have had some Adwords Academy events on the side of exhibitions (SES in London springs to mind).

My only criticism is that Adwords run it, so Adwords will tell you how Google would do Adwords, which in itself is pretty good for most newbie advertisers, but to really get that extra few pips out of the lemon I don't think it quite hits the mark.

I keep thinking Shak and I should do one, but I am sure we'd end up giving the whole game away!

Cool!

Hey, if you do it, may I attend? (As a paying customer of course, and I'll also keep entirely quiet.)

I'm always ready to learn!
