Average Position

I'm confused about the average position stat in the adwords reports. It will say I'm at whatever position on average but when I do a search for that phrase I can't find my ad. I'm getting clicks so someone is finding it.

I'm just curious how they determine the average pos. data.

Thanks

webdevjim, Average Position is literally the average of all the positions your ad has appeared in.

Each time your ad appears for a given keyword, it'll most likely be in a different position, depending on your Max CPC and CTR as compared to your competitor's Max CPC and CTR.

If you were to take each actual position and add up those numbers, then divide by the number of times you've appeared, that would be your Avg. Pos.

Having a low budget can also make your ads "disappear"

Everything I do is low budget:-)

One last? If I show up on the 3rd page of results but I'm the ad on the top of that third page, does it count as position 17 or position 1. I'm assuming there are 8 ads on each search result page.

Thanks.

I'v always thought that an avg. position of 2.3 meant
2nd page, 3rd ad from the top.

If not, it should be :)

Hey, but now you know your postion is much better than you thought it was! ;)

Assuming 8 ads per page, then it counts as postion 17.
