Google's Optimization Suggestions

Anyone else seen this?

I just got an e-mail from Google Adwords with optimization suggestions for my client's site. They've suggested keywords (that were good) and new ad copy (that was awful).

I can approve the suggestions with one click and my ad will automatically update.

I see this as Google's attempt to make even more money. The funny thing is that this client spends less than $5 per month on Adwords.

Nice to see you post 'Trixie'!

I got to see the proposed changes and I would agree about the ad copy. It just seemed really 'off' and like it would apply only to a certain demographic. I would give it a whirl and see how it performs...maybe they know more about the user then we think?

Just make a new ad and turn optimization on and let the users decide which one they like best...

I approved the changes just to see what would happen. Maybe I'll learn something.

I had just set up this account as a stand alone about 2 weeks ago (it was originally a sub-campaign of another account). I just realized that maybe Adwords sees this as a newbie account and is offering some help?

IMO, if you are familiar with the client, the history of the website and conversions from search (not just CTR data) and have a fair amount of experience with AdWords you are in a much better position to create a rockin' campaign than someone w/o that specific knowledge.

I am going to do some research on this and shall report back in due course.

Only problem being, it's Friday, and my friends at Google are probably 1/2 way to the Pub by now ;)

I remember Overture mailing out suggested keywords a while back. However, most of them wouldn't have made it through their own editorial review process.

Looks like Google are now doing something similar...

I remember Overture's suggestions, too, which were often very broad, expensive keyword phrases. To give Google some credit here, the terms they suggested were actually 3 and 4 word phrases and quite targeted.

I'll let you know how the newly optimized campaign fares after we get a few days of traffic.

That's a bit disconcerting Shak, you post at 9.08 AM that half of Google are on their way to the pub......

We actually sent beer to Google the other day when some of my staff went up for training, I kept promising it to our client services co-ordinator and felt it was time to deliver.

Well, Shak, this is a new program, in it's infancy. ;) We've done it informally for a very long time, and now it is getting a bit more formal.

I'll see what additional details I can scare up, and I'll post again on Monday.

Agreed! (But I am the tiniest bit biased, of course.)

Pub, what pub? Did I miss that bus again!?
