I always check that the Pause status is shown, and on weekends when i don't need adwords on its the same. It has resumed by itself throughtout the week.

I assume you've checked will all others who have access to the account, to make sure they are not taking matters into their own hands? I've known clients to make changes in accounts that are managed by others, but to which they have access...
I'm glad you've contacted AdWords support, as they can take a look into the account itself, the history of changes, etc.
I trust your query will be answered soon, and I'd be interested to know the outcome.

I'm the only person that accesses the account.
I've emailed AdWords team again and hope they pick up my second response. (done this via the Contact Us link)
I will generalize the outcome of any responses in a post for your benefit and others that may come across the same issue.
