I am trying to decide weather to pull out or not from content targeted ads. For some reason in the last week or so the traffic from content targeted ads has doubled!
While this is great we can't afford what it is costing us at this rate. Since the CPC seems the same for content targeted ads as it is for searches, I am thinking of pulling out.
My gut tells me these are less valuable clicks than searches so I think the ROI may not be very good.
Anyone out there selling services (not products) that can comment of ROI on Content Targeted ads vs. search?
Thanks.
There are times when a newsstory or other event can prompt the context ad impressions to jump 10k-100k in a single day. We've found that a lot of these people are just seeking more info past the newsstory, and not going to buy services.
Overall, we definately make money with contextual ads, so getting rid of them entirely is out of the question.
The options are to pause the contextual ads on that day, or to let people get more education about the subject even though it'll cost money, in the long run they will be more informed. We've choosen the 2nd route, which has caused a nice brand awareness in many sectors, which can be as useful as profit at times.
The trick is to know the major media sources for your industry and be aware when articles are going to run that will severly impact your business.
