We tried to set up an account with Google Adwords last Friday....and so far the ad is not showing up for the keywords we selected.

It appears as though the campaign is active (at least according to the manager), I've re-entered the credit card (just in case I transposed numbers the first time), deleted the first ad and set up another, and even emailed Google Adwords support (twice), however have not had any response yet.

Can anyone provide any other suggestions as to what may be happening? Or what else I should look at? This is not a pharmaceutical site or an adult site. Granted, Google has only charged us the activation fee so far, but it would be nice to know what happened and what I should do to fix it.

If you are not in a sensative area, your ad should be showing within a few hours at most. I would check to make sure that you are not getting any impressions and that you do not have your ads dissapproved or suspended. If that all looks good, Give Google a call tomorrow at 1-866-2GOOGLE.

Redwolf - thank you for your quick reply. Strangely enough, I just received an email from Google adwords support, and as you suggested, some of the keywords were "sensitive". They have now been approved. I guess I should have allowed extra time for the weekend.

Does Google have a list of subjects they deem "sensitive" that is available for review? I wasn't able to find anything while going through the site. It would certainly save a lot of headaches while trying to figure out what, if anything, I have done wrong (and I was really searching trying to figure out what was going on!). Not to mention that I would know to allow extra time for an editor to have a chance to review the ad rather than expecting it to appear within an hour or two.

jennifer, sorry for your time spent in looking for a published list.

As you can most likely imagine, Google must be very careful indeed, as we offer a program which permits ads to be posted live - right away - to a world-wide audience.

Because of this need for care, there is an evolving list of what one might term 'sensitive' subjects, for which keywords and/or ads must be reviewed before they may go live on Google.

This list is not fixed, and evolves with current events, the news, trends, and so forth.

As just one example, a major function of this list is to prevent inappropriate ads from running on keywords that might refer to at-risk groups. I'm sure you can see, for example, the need to be particularly careful with ads and keywords that refer to infants and children.

I hope this clears things up a bit.
