How long does it take?

To get my listings up?

Hi,

I've just started using Adwords for the US market. I have previously used it for the UK site I have.

I've added keywords and I am a bit puzzled. When I click on 'estimate traffic', it displays the keywords with < 0.1 next to all of them, even if I increase the CPC to an obscene amount like $10 a click (just to test it of course).

I added my credit card to the billing and then checked again. I want to know how long it usually takes to get the ad's live. If I remember from the UK, it was very quick.

Cheers,

Tim

I checked on that over the weekend when i added a couple campaigns. The ads seemed to start showing up within 30 minutes to an hour. It was not "within 5 minutes" or whatever nonsense Google claims on the entry page (I can't even get one ad ready to go in that time, much less have Google start serving it), but it is far faster than Overture. I think if you are in a "sensative" are, I'm not, then you have to wait for a review before showing.

My experiences:

If you select the AdSense option ("Display ads on content sites in Google's network"), your ad will be reviewed before it goes online. This can take up to 24 hours but usually goes quicker (on weekdays).

If you only display the ads on google's search results you can speed up display of your ads if you log out of the AdWords account area. I don't mean closing the window but clicking on "logout". I ran several tests over the weekend and found out that if i logged out of my account after adding new ads, it in fact took only ~5 minutes to display the new ads.

I did my overture keywords for the US market yesterday. All listings went on within a few hours. I was quite impressed. Much quicker than Overture UK.

Still waiting for Google. It's just they don't even say 'we're checking your ads' or anything to let me know. At least Overture do that.

Just wanted to clarify one thing, TimmyMagic. In almost all cases, your ads go live on Google rather quickly, without being reviewed. (They will then be reviewed in the order received, and go live on partner sites after review/approval.)

This is why we don't immediately message you with 'we're checking your ads'.

The exceptions to this rule of going live right away are ads and/or keywords that are of a sensitive nature. These must be reviewed first before going live on Google.

Typically (assuming that your account has already gone through the email verification step that new account have to complete before going live) the time for ads to go live is quite short. It can vary between a few minutes and an hour, depending on traffic, server update times, etc.

This is my gut level feeling, and not based on research: some ads will be live in a minute or two, most ads will be live in 10 to 20 minutes. And, probably 98% will be appearing within an hour.

I undeleted an adgroup with one search term early this morning and as of a few minutes ago it still was not showing up. It's NOT a sensitive term.

I also just noticed that we can now pause adgroups rather than campaigns. I either didn't see this before or it's new. If it's new it's a much better solution.

My keywords are not sensitive at all. I used the same words for my Adwords UK and it was fine, but with the US Adwords, it's still not showing. I've sent an email but am still waiting. The customer service sucks!

I'd like to clarify something from this post.

What happenned was that when I deleted the adgroup it deleted the ad. When I undeleted it there was no ad and I didn't notice this until later in the day. Once I recreated the ad it returned within minutes.

My fault.

It's all up and running now. Still can't work out why it took so long. Never mind.
