Excessive impressions?

Hi,

I just went to check my Adwords stats for today, and noticed something really weird.

One of my keywords has like 8500 impressions for just today. This particular keyword has never had over 150 impressions in one day.

What is do you guys think?

P.S. I got 7 clicks for it, and it drove my ctr way down.

Thanks,

C.K.

Looks like a hack attack on your keyword search on Google

I've got a surge in hits from Netscape with no referrals the other day. Then it died down 2 days later.

Strange.

Hi,

Ok I just checked... Basically all of the impressions are coming from content ads. This is weird to me, as it just started happening one day.

Any Thoughts?

Thanks,

C.K.

To be honest? I think I'd document a record of it happening and contact the support people about it.

If it's a keyword/ad that was recently added it's also possible that it just cleared editorial review and was approved for posting on Adwords partners (AOL & Earthlink) and Adsense sites (targeted content). Those would result in a big impression spike and the CTR on the targeted content is usually pretty low compared to Google traffic.

I agree with MarshallClark,

Your ad is probably being served on some publisher's site via adsense. Low CTR in the adsense program will not adversely affect your ad, so if your ROI hasn't been hurt by the increased impressions I would leave it alone.
