From 8,47% CTR down to 0% CTR

Why?

As a newbie I still don't understand a lot of things.

Following suggestions found in this forum (it's a great resource) I continuously worked on my keywords and ads.

I managed to raise the CTR for one of my campaigns from 1,64% to 3,85% (Oct,18). After a slight change my CTR raised to 8,47% over night (Oct, 19).

However, without making any more changes the CTR has fallen to 0% the next day (Oct, 20) and didn't come back.

Now, I'm starting to loose the position and the impressions are drastically falling.

Why this happened? What can be done?

Sometimes a new ad does really well for a few days then it doesn't work so well. I guess people like to check out something new.

Also the day of the week can affect results depending on what you are advertising.

Could also be your competitors checking you out in the first few days.

For ads that don't generate a lot of impressions, days of the week also matter. Sometimes we see 75% of all conversions on a weekend, and for other campaigns, 75% might occur M-TR. You might want to look at impressions/day and see if there are days of the week that are more significant for your campaign.

:( Must be. And obviousely they also figured out the good keywords I used.

:) Weekends have always been 15-20% better. There was no significant difference among working days.

I may be way off-track here, but a voice is whispering in my ear:

"...ask him if maybe the ad has been disapproved, and he is checking stats for an ad that is not running."

Worth checking anyway. Also, are there any double asterisks (**) on any of the keywords?

um.. don't lose sleep over it. If your competitors found your ad and clicked on it, they already know the keyword and probably have it in their list.

Possibilities -

1) Ads being disapproved
2) Drop in avg position of ad because of new competitors with higher CPC.

Make a slight change in the ad copy and hike up the price a little.

Compare the number of clicks, impressions & avg pos on Oct 19th with the stats for Oct 20th and let us know. Do mention the number of clicks too - because 8.47% CTR could mean 1 click and 12 impressions. If that's the case, there is a big possibility of CTR going down from 8% to 0% in a day!

"...ask him if maybe the ad has been disapproved, and he is checking stats for an ad that is not running."

This was the first thing I checked. No, the add is running and still got about 90 impressions/day. This is sligthly less than before and like the position continously falling.

I really think it's a competitor who found my "magic" keywords (easy to guess from title and text). When I set a very high CPC and click on "estimate traffic" I can see that the estimated costs are more than twice as much than two weeks ago.

Now I tried to set my bid above my mark, just to see what happens for a day or two. However, I cannot do this longer than two days without the risk of a negativ ROI.
