Sure, I had used Overture with some success when it first came out but within 18 months the clicks were too expensive for me. I stopped using it entirely.
Boy, did Adwords help me out! It turned around my main site with its inexpensive, targeted clicks.
But like Overture before it, as competition increased the Adwords cost per click was steadily increasing and the number of clicks was decreasing.
I needed more inexpensive clicks. So given the recent changes in Overture, a few weeks ago I thought I'd give Overture another try despite the fact that I DESPISE their glacial backend.
The Overture clicks started out slow but for some reason they are increasing.
Now, with all the changes at Adwords (negative changes) and Overture (positive changes) I've seen something that I thought I would never see - my cost per action with Overture yesterday was less than from Adwords!
Sure, it's only one day but it's still a shock to me.
It's amazing how fast things can change in this business.
Adwords: Conversion Rate - 1.74%, Ave CPC - $0.31, Cost per Conversion $18.00
Overture: Conversion Rate - 2.79%, Ave CPC - $0.19, Cost per Conversion $6.65
However, this is not the complete picture. We get 4 times as much conversions from Google as Overture and therefore would have to find a way of reducing the costs of Adwords. As far as Overture, I don't think it would be possible to increase the traffic from them any further.
