Negative Glitch Behavior?

I remember that one of the google founder's statements was "Don't be evil" Which I interpreted as putting service and ethics before money.

Now with the Negative Glitch issue (some ads with negative keywords are no longer showing for all the keywords associated with the ad) it seems that the statement is not 100% true, because they choose a solution that is not fair to hide the fact that they have a serious bug.

The first proof for unfair action is that they recognized the problem in private telephone support to some advertisers, but the rest ignore the problem or are getting crazy trying to realize what's happening.

Posting a news alert like the expanded broad match or mailing the affected customers would be too honest?

Hey ferfer, I don't drop by the AdWords forum as often, but I was skimming this weekend. I just dropped an email off to a few people to ask for more info. If I found out anything useful, I'll be happy to post. Just to make sure I understand: sometimes if you have negative keywords, that ad doesn't show. Let me know if I misunderstood..

Thank you for dropping in GG.

I see you have read the thread [webmasterworld.com...] .

You may also want to read my original thread started last Thursday: [webmasterworld.com...] .

At the moment what is happening is that the broad term search words are only showing for a very few extensions.

As pointed out in the other thread when I put in our regional term (2 words) our ad appears. When we add one word to this regional term the ad does not show. In this example widget1 widget2 appears however widget1 widget2 diving does not appear.

The really annoying aspect of all this is that support has totally ignored us. They sent one totally wrong response and when I responded to that along with two other further e-mails they have decided not to answer.

If it weren't for WW I would be in the total dark as to what is happening. Not very Google like.

Thankfully, the woman I spoke to in customer service knew that negative kw's were causing the glitch. Otherwise, I'm not sure if I would have ever known.

Before I called, I sent out an email regarding the problem. The response I received did not mention anything about negative keywords being the root of the problem.

Thanks goes to whoever mentioned using hoovers.com sometime recently. It was how I had to find Google's number.

Happy to help, Tropical Island. I'll post back in the original thread. AdWordsAdvisor is usually more knowledgeable than I am about AdWords, but I have less of a life and thus am more likely to be prowling the boards on the weekend. ;)

Ferfer,

there is a big difference in a company "possibly" making a mistake, and being un-ethical.

Thanks for jumping in over the weekend GoogleGuy, and thanks to Shak as well for his skill and tact as a moderator.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the issues discussed here, and in similar threads, and post with additional information wherever I can.

As mentioned in another thread, I'll be forwarding a summary of your comments regarding the recent changes to AdWords to management and product development. So I assure you, your voices will be heard, verbatim.

We don't use any negative words, but just use a single word which broad matches a lot of relevant key phrases.

Usually we get approx. 250 clicks per day on this single keyword, using broad match.

Since last Wednesday, we've dropped to approx. 20 clicks per day. The keyword hasn't been disabled, and randon checks seem to show the ad. But it is obviously only appearing for a small number of times that it should appear.

Googleguy this isn't a negative keyword problem, but is a general 'broad match' issue.

I'll ask around, Neil_S. Are the ads still showing up in about the same position as before, or a little lower?

No, they're not showing at all. Or they're showing on a specific phrase, and yet not showing on other phrases where they should be. No apparant logic, other then your 'broad match' badly malfunctioning.

p.s. I tried to reply to your sticky mail, but your mailbox is full!

Neil_S & GG

This is exactly the problem. The broad terms that should show up which are simple extensions of the original term are not appearing on all terms.

P.S. GoogleGuy - I also tried to answer your questions however couldn't get through to your bulging sticky mailbox.
