Geo Targeting - Does it help you?

I recently realised that many of our two word search terms were the same in some foreign languages, so I set about making different campaigns in each language for these ambiguous terms. These capmains are geotargetted both by language and location.

The funny thing is that click through is even worse for these campains than when I had just one English Ad for all locations. Perhaps the people searching from the local Google were English speakers?

Has anyone got good results with geo targeting? Did you need to do some further optimizing to make it effective?

For your non-English campaign, run two ads for the same adgroup - one in English and the other in the local language. And then check the results.

I've been running the languages in the same campaign by theme. That's an interesting idea, I'll test it out.
