If a company bids on Adwords for a keyword which is both a product name, and the company name of the company which manufactures that product - but the ad is for a competing product, is this trademark infringement?

Would Google pull the ad if requested by the company concerned?

Yeh they will pull it if a trademark infringement is reported AFAIK.

Is the term a generic keyword or a brand name?

Keyword the company may be able to do it, brand name they wont.

Thanks Scott,

Brand name most definitely, the best known brand for this particular market.

They may pull if is asked, otherwise they will turn a blind eye.
