Over the last week my CTR has crashed to 0.5% when everything points otherwise. Some key points.

1. Same creative for 6 months.
2. Average position is 1.3
3. Competition seems to have disappeared recently. Example, there are only 2 others today while long term average is 6 or seven others.
4. Long term CTR is about 1.5%
5. Impressions is the usual averagae so people are searching.

This does not make sense.

Are your ads still being shown in AOL?

The only possibility I can think of is that the search results for your keywords have improved. Hence surfers are possibly clicking on them rather than the AdWords ads.

You need to change with time - tweak the ad copy and the keywords.

ThomasAJ:

I have noticed the exact same thing over multiple keywords the past several days.

I highly doubt it is your ad copy. And I don't think improved search results would have that dramatic an effect - especially if more than several keywords are being utilized.

A few possibilities that come to mind are:

1. AdWords is using an improved click fraud filter.

2. They have lost or booted some "marginal" traffic partner(s). Ones that you would not even know of to check and/or ones possibly committing fraud.

3. A reporting problem from a traffic partner.

4. Some sort of psychological "pause" due to the 9/11 anniversary approaching. People still searching but not clicking as much on commercial sites.

I wouldn't worry unless it continues for several more weeks.

vibgyor79 - Search results have not improved.
Also how do I find out what Adword ads are being shown by AOL US. I am in Australia so i get redirected to AOL OZ, and although web site results are powered by Google I cannot see any Adwords ads for any keyword at all. No just my keywords. I cannot use anonymizer as it does not allow a search to be done after AOL is shown.

Also, thanks Seasalt, I have no idea, you could be right.

vibgyor79 - you hit the nail on the head. NOT being shown on AOL.

About a week ago I changed my creative, got bad CTR so 24 hours later reverted back to my original creative. Now I realize that changes have to be approved for syndication. OK then, fair enough.

But 1 week later and still *not* approval. Boy am I upset!

Is this normal?

PS have email adwords team.

Yeah - partner approvals seem to be taking a lot of time these days. I always make the changes, wait for 24 hours and send 'em an email. That seems to work.
