I have checked everything multiple times and cannot see any problems with it. eg negative words that might contradict the keywords etc.
I emailed the AdWords Team over 24 hours ago but no reply.
What is the average approval time for new AdGroups?
Another possibility is that you may have targetted the US or another country, in which case you won't see those ads without using a proxy in that country.
If you are targetting Oz, then your ads should show immediately (15 minutes?) - fairly soon anyway. The approval can take a day but it only works against you if there is a problem.
Adwords support replies in less than 24 hours but you may have caught them at knock-off time on their Friday. I can't recall if they work weekends.

It's a new AdGroup in an existing campaign that targets ALL countries, ALL languages.
It's been over 96 hrs and still no impressions!
How long does a NEW adgroup in an EXISTING campaign take to be approved, roughly.
I know that new copy (creative) in an existing adgroup goes to air immediately but may be disapproved later.

Approved? Can take days, sometimes weeks before some editor spots some "error".

So your problem is not about disapproval (you are emailed if this happens), but perhaps a technical glitch.
Why not try creating a test adword and see if it shows up immediately? If it works, delete the problem one and make a new one.

I'm confused here. Don't you mean disapproved? I don't mean to be rude but aren't you contradicting yourself, or am I misunderstanding you?
What is the DEFAULT state of a NEW AdGroup in an EXISTING Campaign?
That is, does it go to air immediately, or does it need approval first. I always thought the latter.
If it's the former then there is something very wrong. If it's the latter then it's a different wrong in my case (if you know what I mean :) )
Possibly, your max CPC is too low and hence not being dispayed in 3rd or 4th page of search results! Else, you will have to wait for a reply from the support team.
Ads do not need approval or disapproval before they go live, be it an existing campaign or a new one. Like I said, write a new ad with a rare keyword (Aussie place names) and test the theory. The Adwords FAQ confirms that and nobody here is contesting what I am saying.
Yes, something could very wrong but you'll have to wait until our Tuesday before the Adwords people get to work.
Hm... unless I have defined my new AdGroup incorrectly (highly unlikely as I have septuple checked :) ) then perhaps different policies apply to certain categories of products. No not adult.
Come to think of it, although I have infrequently created new Adgroups over the last year so my memory is a not perfectly clear here, I am quite confident that I have *never* had a new adgroup go live immediately. I have *always* had to email the AdWords team after say 24 hours, then it goes live, and I receive an email back saying something like "sorry for the delay... it has been approved".
But never a delay of 96+ hrs. and counting.
I will get to the bottom of this eventually and keep you posted.
