I was considering paying for a listing in JoeAnt but could not find any other UK companies in the category I had chosen. Are their listings used in any UK at all or is it only worth adding to get PR?
Their guidelines do not mention them being a US only directory.

Why not become an editor, you can then add your listing for free :)

I have submitted sites to JoeAnt, and do get occasional click throughs.

Thanks! I'll probably submit to them then I was just concerned that they wouldn't list UK sites.
Off I go to submit...

Yeah, I submitted and the link got picked up by Googlebot really quick, which helps with PR depending on the category you submit to. I get a few visitors through from the link. I think it's worth it, even if only for the extra backlink.

I'll second that andy, I've submitted a few of our sites there, some when it was still free and it makes a good boost for the sites especially if they're new - so i've kept on paying . Also try GoGuides, that one's free. :)

I am not getting many visits but I manage two e-commerce websites and I am getting confirmed sales from JoeAnt. As far as I am concerned it has been worth it. And with Christmas coming JoeAnt could be one of the best purchases for $39.99, since Yahoo and Looksmart went to paid. Also all my purchases have been UK based. Which I was suprised about. I thought that it would be US purchases (we are global - who isn't on the web). And of course it helps with your Google Page Rank.

Thanks everyone!
I've submitted to JoeAnt. I will be the only site listed under the particular category (if they accept the site of course)!
The page is a VERY common subject area within the "Regional > Europe > United Kingdom" section but it does not have any PR at the moment. Have they added the regional stuff recently?

Any other directories I should consider whilst we are on the subject?

Much appreciated,
Chris.

I am an editor there and I add UK sites all the time. As long as they are on a relevant page and have relevant text it doesnt matter where they are from in my opinion and I add them and accept them without blinking.

There's a list on here somewhere of all the smaller directories, although the list contains some duplicates from sites using a dmoz data dump.

GoGuides is worth having for the backlink also I would say.

tosspot17 Goguides.org isn't free anymore, it's $39.99 unless you become a Guide...

Thanks The Cricketer, I hadn't realised you now have to pay. Still worth it though IMHO, as it gives a good PR boost.

Cheers,
Chris.
