I had a call today from worldnet - telecom a UK based "overture partner" offering a radical new SEM product.

Apart from the usual scepticism about any firm cold-calling me you are even more put off by the alleged "partnership" they claim to have with a major player. Weve heard it all before.

That aside the actual product was fairly interesting and introduced what they claim is a common method of searching for web users.

In a nutshell they sell you a keyword for a fixed price per annum in addition to which there will be a hosting fee to enable the software to operate (Im not clever enough to know whether this is BS or not). When the user types in your keyword into the address bar (rather than any search box on any given page)your details will come up and bypass the usual re-route to say msn.uk that you will see now on ie.

I dont know what the ctr is likely to be or what the search volumes are but its news to me that people use the address bar anyway - sure a number of net newbies might do but are there significant numbers of people out there ignoring search engines and actually using the add bar? I really dont know but this product relies on this method and unless the firm concerned are complete turkeys they must have some basis for there blurb

BUT - is it worth a stab?

Id appreciate any views on the search method discussed above or worldnet and their products (hopefully ive not breached the tos here)

Cheers

Something very similar has been discussed before. I believe that the product they are selling actually requires users to download an IE add-on. I can't find the thread that discusses this though.

it sounds like they're just reselling 'International Keywords' - [ikeyword.com...] which is just a new version of the old RealNames

all in all avoid them - its not worth it + your budget can be better spent elsewhere
