Two days ago I discovered Lycos UK, applies a frame to all search results. You click on results and remain within the Lycos frameset.

I also discovered that this 'Framed forwarding' does not show on STATS, cookie or server.

For months I wondered why Lycos had not referred a single visitor.

Can we also assume that Lycos are taking referal fees from click throughs from MY site?

No frames for me - I think however I've seen that before, not sure anymore. Anybody?

Yep, i've been seeing it for a while, and been offered the banner (selling them on a keyword basis).

I thinks it's really disapointing they had to resort to this for more revenue. Makes tham look even more spammy.

Plus it means theres a new product for people to cold call me with. :(

I think ask.co.uk does this as well.

A solution we used was to insert a small bit of javascript which makes sure your page isn't in a frame (needless to say it won't work if your site uses frames)

Somthing like

if (top.location!= location) top.location.href = location.href;

- Still to be tested on all browsers

I see the frame but I'm also seeing the referal in stats and in the server logs which clearly shows its Lycos - the entry is something like this (modified to protect the innocent ;-) )
http://www.lycos.co.uk/search/frame/searchframe.html?url=http%253A//www.sample.com/index.htm&query=sample&rs=1

And, a warm welcome to WebmasterWorld. [webmasterworld.com]

I agree with engine on this one, although Lycos and Ask freme in the results they do show up in the stats. Still get very little from Lycos, less than 1% on our UK site.
