Sorry if this is a vague question...
In the next month or two, I'm launching a website selling power and hand tools in the UK at a fraction of the cost of the DIY stores. I'm planning to use Google adWords and Overture, but I've not done this before, so I have no idea of how much traffic this is likely to generate... I've no idea if it's going to be only a few hits a day, 10s, 100s, 1000s or what!
If anyone can give me any rough guidelines of what I can expect, I'd be grateful!
Thanks,
Jonathan.

Vague question mate :)
go do a check on:
[inventory.uk.overture.com...]
for your chosen keywords, this will give you a clue of how many searches are performed on Overture and its partners.
this is just the starting point, however I would strongly advise using a PPC management company to take care of things for you.
you will actually save rather than lose, by doing it this way.

Overture = [webmasterworld.com...]
PPC = [webmasterworld.com...]
Google Adwords = [webmasterworld.com...]
There are no easy answers as its a very tricky game, but all the information is here in 1 shape or another.
Good luck, and do report back.

I've been playing around with the traffic estimator for Google AdWords - is this a reasonable rate of traffic to expect? Or in reality is this completely different?
I've bid 5p on various keywords and it's estimated 129 clicks a day...
I guess I'll find out for sure once I launch the site and use it for real!
I have used both overture and google adwords - and whilst
IMO adwords is better, both can prove to be very expensive!
I would try it for a week or so and monitor the results
very closely.
In the long term you would be be better off IMO in spending time in building a context rich web site
that will rank well inthe SE's
Good luck

Shak is right, the best way to gauge is by using

The estimator is more accurate the more competitive the sector. if Google has data for your sector then it should be reasonably accurate, but if not then it could say you won't get any traffic but the reality is you could get a lot.
Many factors will affect the success, and as has been alluded to, it's probably best for you to have a play around yourself, and read up about it both here and at Google's and Overture's sites where there are some tutorials.
Good luck.
FiddleFadler, I am working on making sure the site ranks well in the search engines, but I'll need to boost my traffic levels initially so that I can meet the minimum order levels with my supplier.
Another thing I'm wondering, although is probably very off-topic for this forum, is the likely percentage of people that, having clicked-through to my site, are likely to place orders... Anyone got any thoughts on this?
Thanks again!
