My site have a page rank of 5, it is a UK site, but it is almost impossible to let Google search engine know this.

I tried to list my site in DMOZ UK, and hennce included by Google driectory ( UK ) also, but it still did not work;

I tried to add UK to the title and content of every page, it did not work either;

The same thing actually happens to Inktomi also.

Please help

The only sure way of getting Google and the other search engines to recognise that your site is a UK one is to either have a .co.uk domain or host it on a UK server. Google tends to identify sites as being UK sites if they a: have a .uk domain or b: are hosted in the UK. Many of the other search engines do not use the IP location.

jmcc is absolutely correct, but going 1 step further I would say go for the UK domain .co.uk or similar.

2 of Googles biggest fed search destinations will only show results with uk domains if the searcher request results/pages from the UK.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld allcam,

What jmccormac and Shak said.

In my view a UK site selling to UK people *must* promote via the .co.uk domain, I can't stress how important I think that is.

Hi Allcam,

Everyone is right, when the searcher clicks on "pages from the UK" Google first uses the TLD to do the sort.

Since many large companies who have compained they should not be penalized for not using the local TLD Google now takes the second step of looking for UK based IP's.

If you do not have either one of them you will not come up. In other markets like Germany, where language is thrown in, it gets a bit more complicated.

We had same problems with our listing with google. I checked that the hosting etc was based in the UK, which it was. But still the site was not showing up as UK based company. BUT all of a sudden, during this month's google update we suddenly are showing up as a UK based company. It seems as google started to recognise the ODP/ DMOZ listing more for this update.

You really need .co.uk tld until google starts using whois services they will only be able to best guess.
