We've just finished re-designing a website for a UK client. Now when we search in google it shows some old links (obviously). The google webmasterpage says... [google.com]

so that seems fair enough.

My question is should we be re-submitting to any other search engine or do they work in similar ways to google?

thanks for any input, ben

No, I wouldn't resubmit. I would put permanant redirects(301) on all the old pages by using your .htaccess file. Try to point each redirect to it's counterpart in the new site.

I agree, it should not be necessary to resumit the site so don't waste time doing that.

Besides the suggestion by Birdman, I would also focus on looking for appropriate incoming links which will encourage the routine spider walks toward your new site.

Note: You may end up waiting some time for some of the search services to update their index with the new pages.

thankyou both for your input. Its always hard to know what to suggest to clients so we'll tell them to work on some linkage instead, thanks again.
