Hi

Is anyone using Lycos' Kiti, their equivalent to Google's Adwords.

If so what is the traffic like and the conversion rate.

Many thanks.

Lloyd,

You might find this thread an interesting read.

When I spoke to them (The Purple Circle, now calling themselves TPC Group), it sounded fairly expensive. £600 to sponsor a single keyphrase for a year IIRC, or £200 each for the smaller boxes. While that might be worth it on the very popular phrases, I imagine the returns fall away fast for most phrases.

More worryingly, they won't give out any impression numbers! I asked them how many impressions I would be paying for roughly and they wouldn't say.... which leads me to think that they are probably over charging and know it. Why else hide the value for money?

Oh, and the stats that they did try and provide me with were from Overture - they actually tried to pass them off as Lycos's own stats! What a con.

And also, I would be somewhat dubious about forking out for a year on any Internet scheme. A site asking for a year's payment in advance hints at a cash crisis, and little hope of much growth in the coming year.

IMO Don't touch anyone trying to flog the Lycos results - not TPC, Touch or any of their pseudonyms!

The problem is I believe (between two of us we have received over 150 calls from the companies) they have paid Lycos a couple of Mill for the priveledge of selling advertising exclusively for Lycos - the big problem there is that no one uses Lycos in the UK.

They quoted they were the third biggest in the UK - hmmmm so that's google, msn then lycos..... HAHAHA.

Plus you're right the stats they quote are Overture and if you consider that from those stats probably 75% are purely from MSN...

My mate has three for financial products and despite paying over £500 for each has had twelve clickthroughs in two months - NICE! Admittedly he has the Premium link, but the Touch team have simply created more and more advertising boxes to make their money!

Do not 'touch' them IMO!

Lycos = No Traffic these days - the last year has seen a steady decline in Lycos's traffic and Kiti seems to be a last desperate attempt to generate some revenue.

And according to my Top of the Search Engines chart, Lycos UK now sits in 10th position in the UK, rather than the claimed 3rd, behind UK Plus(!).

Looking at the traffic details for Lycos (on Alexa), an incredible 21% of their users are there for the dating, 20% for chat and just 11% for searching.

Hi BobbyD

Now that is interesting - another fantastic analogy is that a mate of mine has three major financial terms that combined have 1000's of searches (alledgedly) but in three months ......... get this......

13 unique users!

So for a total of about £1500, that works out at 52 uniques at £28.85 a clickthrough - now that's a world-beating ROI!
