Freeserve renew exclusive PPC with Overture UK

I thought that exclusive meant ONE.....Singular

This is all very strange. Just received an email from Overture US telling me that the UK portal Freeserve has renewed its multi-year agreement with Overture UK as the exclusive provider of paid search listings.

At the same time Webfinder, the new offering from Thomson Local Directories is still claiming that it's going to provide results for Freeserve.

I always thought that exclusive meant one only, i.e. in the singular....so who's telling porkies?

at the top of the Freeserve home page it gives you an option of All the Web(Overture) UK (Overture) or Thomson Local, although I bet that doesn't get use much

PR spin from both.

Overture announced 12/20/2002 that is was extending the deal as the exclusive provider of paid search listings NOT search results.

Thomson Local Directories is providing results for Freeserve as Tigger says so they can say this. They of course don't mention that these results are just buried.

I think the exclusivity refers to "web results" (e.g. not a combination of Overture & Google sponsored links.)

The Thomson Local results should be targeted to location based services. Thomson provide Freeserve's business search so it makes sense that these results are contained within the "on Freeserve" section of their resutls page.

I think that Web Finder has got the ISP customer base and Overture have the general web search traffic. Both deliver decent results, Overture carry all of the Freeserve results so often good traffic levels can be gleaned from keywords when you are 15th or 18th if you have written a good creative.

I've not tried Web Finder, I object to paying £49 to set up an account with someone when the "players" charge £5 (Gooogle) £10 (Espotting) and nothing (Overture).

Just had a call from Web Finder / Thomson who say that their PPC results are going to be displayed above the Overture ones on Freeserve. If you do a search you will see there are 3 spots up there (have different URLs in there at the moment).

They should appear in the Freeserve Network section above the Overture results.

Has anybody tried the Freeserve/WebFinder deal yet?

The £50 set-up fee that is putting me off a bit.

I haven't seen the deal... and can't find it either. What's the offer?

I think the cheapest is £100 setup including £50 worth of clicks.

Clicks are from 5p each.

It's the top 1 or 2 of the 3 slots above the Overture listings on Freeserve.

It looks like nearly all clicks are 5p at the moment. (+ a hefty 50 quid to start off)
