Which are the best sites to advertise new UK Web directory

Which sites do the good folks here use to find out the latest web news?

We have just started to do some marketing and advertising for a new UK Web portal. We are advertising at some b2b sites such as NetImperative and UKNM at Chinwag and also sponsoring daily and weekly newsletters at UKNM.

Are there any other decent UK sites and/or newsletters that people here use and think are good places to promote in?

Really looking at places where you get information from with a UK focus.

At this stage of the web directory we are promoting more towards people who want to add their site, so looking at b2b type sites and newsletters for this part of the phase.

thanks

Leslie,

Glad to see you are keeping busy :)

Your marketing activities seem to be doing pretty well, have seen it on the chinwag list.

Have you submitted to the relevant Dmoz category, I would have thought thats quite a popular place visited by webmasters looking to include their sites into relevant directories.

Anyway, best of luck, and no doubt we shall speak soon.

Dmoz gave the directory a listing within 3 days of submitting it :)

Which I thought was very good.

Yahoo have been approached as a possible place to advertise, but don't seem to respond to e-mail requests :(

And of course, Alta Vista and Inktomi have both been paid for and were added within a couple of days each.

Have you tried pay per click - I see lots of UK "web search" type searches with no advertisers & minimum bids on them when doing research for clients (who aren't in this sector).

Maybe you could use these for some cheap traffic & branding?

Added: And there are "promote your website" type searches too (okay, I just re-read the first posting :-) ) but the cost is higher.

What about sponsorship of e-zines or newsletters?
