[news.bbc.co.uk...]

BBC article about top sites of the year and UK web trends.

Nielsen said Google's slow expansion taking in its news search site and shopping portal would only help it maintain its popularity during 2003.

UK's web audience jumped to 28% during 2002.

I thought better of the BBC - not only does this not paint the full picture, but it actually gives the wrong impression IMO.

Like all stats, its misleading unless some of the parameters are qualified in detail.

eg. What do they mean by 'web audience'

28% of a an undefined group tells us nothing. We have to read the full Neilsen stats to get any understanding of their report.

Shame on you BBC

Google 28% of UK searches. If you were to ad Google's partners in the UK (Freeserve, AOL, BBCi etc, I think this figure would give Google nearer 50%.

I'd go along with you nick more like 50-60% and a few of my clients 80%.... worrying!
