Hi All,

Lately i've been getting infuriated with Ebay (& ebay affiliates) creating multiple listings on Espotting + Overture.... what relevance is?:

1. ebay ..blah blah blah
2. """""""""""""""""""""
3. """""""""""""""""""""
4. """""""""""""""""""""
5. my little site down at the bottom under all those dupe listings :(

silly! contacted overture and they wouldnt do anything about it, contacted Espotting and today they removed all offending listings for me :) result - well done Espotting!

Well done!

I think some sites, like ebay, bid for hundreds of No1 positions for branding purposes only. I suspect very few people click the links, so it is free advertising which just reinforces the brand. A searcher will keep seeing ebay and yet has probably all ready been there, so they don't click.... but the branding is kept in their mind. It's a smart move by ebay, but espotting etc. is being taken for a ride and it is damaging. Advertisers get fed up, and sites that show espotting loose quality results and thus repeat visitors.

I hope espotting looks at their click through rates for these sites and realise they are damaging their business. I bet very few people click ebay compared to number of impressions shown.

I wonder whether Espotting do measure the CTR for advertisers like on Google Adwords? One would assume that this would be a sensible precaution.

However, I expect that the amount that the Ebay deal is worth outweighs any negative effects.
