Does anyone know anything about buyersguide.co.uk? They have quoted me £500 for inclusion in their search engine with a single "A4 screen profile". It looks dodgy to me, but they're claiming that companies such as Compaq, Philips and Coca Cola are using their services. The big sales pitch is that Local Authorities and Government Departments are going to use it as some kind of electronic purchasing portal.

Dont DO it.

personally would not give them £5 for listing on there

£500 is a lot of money to fork out for their opinions that they will do this/that/the other for you.

No doubt Jim Banks from WebDiversity shall be replying to this post explaining how much £500 buys in traditional SEO or PPC based on your target industry.

I was approached by them and on the face of it the proposition was pretty good.

But let's be honest the government departments have a seperate process for tendering and I couldn't see a buyers guide being of much value.

£500 on PPC would give you up to 10,000 visitors and there is every likelihood that most "buyers" research online.

On that basis we talked ourselves out of it. I'm always a bit wary of publications or sites that I've never heard of.

If you look at the site it's just an affiliate haven.

Thanks for your opinions. You have pretty much confirmed my suspicion that my money is better spent on PPC. BTW, they were also quoting £11,790 for a "Static Click Button - Homepage (non-exclusive)" - whatever that is. Nice money if you can get it.

Shak,

Would love to get out more, but got so much work on I can't get two minutes to myself. Mustn't grumble though.

I'd charge on a per frame basis, but give a discount, so lets see, £8k times 12 frames...
